How to know you are ready for the next step
- Hold or complete the target cleanly before you try the next step.
- If you feel pain or lose control, stay on the same step a bit longer.
- Move up only when you feel fine the next day, not sore or hurt.

How to train it
Train the human flag two or three times a week. On the days between, do easy work like light stretching or a short walk. Give your wrists, shoulders and side muscles time to recover.
Use the ready target to know when to move up. Hold or complete it cleanly, then try the next step. If you feel stuck, spend an extra week on the same step and focus on clean form.
Mistakes to avoid
Skipping the side plank means your core is not ready, so you lose control fast. Do the side plank first and train both sides. Bending the bottom arm makes the flag feel easier but teaches bad habits, so keep it straight. Rushing the negatives means you drop instead of braking, so slow the fall down.
Forgetting to warm up your shoulders raises your risk of a strain, so take a few minutes to warm up. Adding steps too fast leaves your tendons behind, so move up only when you hit the target.
Common questions
How long does it take to get the human flag?
It depends on where you start and how often you train. Some people take months, others take longer. Focus on clean steps, not speed.
Can I train the human flag every day?
No, your muscles need rest to get stronger. Two or three times a week is enough, with easy days in between.
What if I can't hold the top position?
Spend more time on flag negatives and side planks. Build strength on the lower steps before you try the full flag.
Do I need a vertical post?
Yes, most steps use a vertical post like a pole or a sturdy frame. The last step uses separated bars instead.
